Campaign Overview

WHAT IS EARTH HOUR?

Earth Hour is a global environmental movement started by WWF. From its humble beginnings in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, WWF’s Earth Hour has grown to become one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment with its well-known symbolic ‘lights-off’ from 8:30 to 9:30pm local time on the last Saturday of March each year. Last year, in the UAE, we had over 7,100 individuals and 700+ businesses that joined the movement, resulting in over 27k actions taken! We had iconic buildings, like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Louvre Abu Dhabi participate by switching their ‘lights-off’ on the hour. Now that is something.

Earth Hour 2021 will be a key moment to unite people to Speak Up for Nature. Earth Hour will take place on 27th March 2021 at 8:30pm local time. In the lead up to and on the night of Earth Hour, we will ask people around the world to switch off and speak up for nature - to stand in solidarity to show we care about the future of our planet, our one shared home.

Its continuous success and growth are thanks to grassroots Earth Hour organizers and supporters around the world – people like you.
